Happy Dating

Bad DateBy Christiénne Miller

It’s happened to the best of us — the quintessential bad date. In fact, if you actively date, you know the odds are you’ll end up with more misses than hits.

I think the most difficult times to date are when you move to a new city, and after a divorce. Both of those have the “new start” nervous energy in common, which can lead to daters not being as rational and savvy as they normally might be. Also, since most people are hooking up online these days, the potential for unpleasant dating shenanigans has, unfortunately, multiplied. I’m sharing this insight with you — my Sweet Talk gal pals — because I went through it, and a close friend has recently had to put her suit back on and take the plunge.

Thankfully now, unlike when I went back to dating, there’s plenty of great advice out there. So, if your headstrong friend won’t listen to you directly,  just direct him/her to these online dating safety tips.

The only thing I would expand on from this list is to make sure a couple of close friends know where you are going, and that you agree on a time you can excuse yourself to call or text them during the date. This may seem overly cautious, but I’d rather be safe than unhappy, wouldn’t you?
