Hot Child in the Country

Amish people have always fascinated me.  I can’t decide whether I find them unfathomable because out of pity or secret envy.

I used to feel frustrated.  I wanted to knock on every Amish door and tell them what they were missing!  How could they call themselves religious if they were rejecting the world’s many gifts, if they were resisting the flow of the universe, if they were swimming upstream, moonwalking back in time?!?  I mean there was nothing more religious to me than Dirty Dancing and Ben & Jerry’s.

I calmed down as I grew up…a little…and now I am thinking maybe I am jealous of their simple lifestyle, of their ignorance and bliss, of their wisdom and transcendence.  Maybe they are not burying their heads in the sand but rather pointing them toward the sky.

One thing that might sway me in one direction or the other is knowing more about their love lives, but Wikipedia is not being very helpful!

I’m assuming the Amish are pretty modest when it comes to sex, but is sexual education and activity über-repressed à la Spring Awakening?  Because that show was not a good advocate for the hear-no-evil, earmuff mentality.

And I’m guessing sex is probably supposed to be saved for marriage, but what about everything else?  Are boys and girls allowed to date?  Are they allowed to kiss?  Are any sweet spots involved?  Or maybe, like most strict sects of any kind, the kids of this generation are scandalously, savagely breaking all of the rules of the generation before them and getting more action than any of us!

Does anyone know more about Amish opinions on love and sex?  Are girls allowed to reveal their sweet spots before marriage?  Do they?

X
