True Bromance

By Christiénne Miller

Though it came out on DVD and Blu-ray last Tuesday, I finally got to sit down to watch I Love You, Man, last night. I’d seen it back in March, but couldn’t wait until I could see it again. I’ll admit, I laughed a little harder the first time around, but this time, I found myself engrossed in the surprising depth behind the seeming “fluffiness” of its plot.

If you haven’t seen it, I highly recommend it — especially if you’re in a relationship. The writers, essentially, have taken the genre of a chick flick, and made one for dudes. I mean, they’ve turned the whole girlfriend bonding scenario in on itself, to create a true bromance. I especially like the way they highlight double standards that seem to pop up in relationships, perpetuating disharmony on both sides of an issue (i.e. the intimate secrets we may share with our friends with disregard to how our partner may feel about it).

In the end, though, this movie really is a lot of fun. I’m hoping, too, that more bromance films find their way in the entertainment world. I kind of enjoy them more than most chick flicks. How about you?
