Bare or Hair? The Choice Is Personal

An email recently graced my inbox under the subject of hair removal, and with the following question:

“Hi Holly,

Lately, I have been wondering about pubic hair removal. I don’t do this because of ingrown hairs and other issues (like knicking) that I
think would defeat the purpose. I feel like I am the last woman on earth with hair still down there. Is it the norm to remove it? Do you
recommend this practice? Thanks, Meredith”

Thank you, Meredith, for sending me your question. It’s a topic we discuss and research quite a bit on Sweet Talk, so I thought I’d share my opinion openly, and invite the community to respond to you as well.

After reading your email, my first thought is to express one of my golden rules when it comes to anything you choose to do with your body — do what makes you comfortable, feel great about yourself, and makes you happy. This is not meant to sound trite, it’s just one of my non-negotiables. Just because, Meredith, it seems as though everyone else is doing it, doesn’t mean it’s something that will work for you. The “norm” is what’s normal for you.

Now, if you’re considering going hairless because someone else requested it, that’s another thing. Sometimes our partners find something attractive that we don’t think twice about. Though clearly a topic for another post, my quick two cents on that would be — if it’s something you could try that wouldn’t harm you and would please them, then why not go for it? The result may exceed both your expectations.

For me, it means I keep my sweet spot very tidy — being relatively hair free enables me to maintain a level of freshness I appreciate and helps my intimate grooming products last a bit longer. Over the years, I’ve gone hairless a number of ways — shaving, waxing, and laser treatments — and with my sensitive nature, I’ve found that waxing with a professional works the best for me. With all of these methods, however, I, like you, am challenged with ingrown hairs. My solutions include daily exfoliation and products like PFB Vanish. Again, all of this is what works for me, so I encourage you to discover what works for you.

Which brings me to my parting bit of advice: Do your research. We’ve done some of it for you in these Sweet Talk posts on waxing and laser hair removal, and though we’ll be uncovering more about hair removal in the future, we’ve included some great resources and information within those articles to help you find your way.

And now let’s open this up to all my wise and wonderful Sweet Talkin’ gals: Any additional sweet advice for sister Meredith?
