The Recession is Truly Hitting Home

You know you are in a recession when your toilet paper company starts cutting back, literally.  I have been using Quilted Northern for as long as I can remember.  I think shopping habits are sometimes handed down from generation to generation, my mom bought it, so now that is what I buy.  I am sort of a creature of habit and that works for me until something upsets my rhythm.  I grew up using Tide laundry detergent, so it was only a natural progression that I would use it on my family’s laundry.  Then one day we just started being itchy, not sure if they changed the formula or what, but it took awhile for me to figure out just what it was.  I mean really, when it is suggested as a driveway cleaner you have to admit, it might be a little harsh for skin, so I switched to my new favorite Allergen Free ALL.  I even switched deoderant once because the “new” Secret Powder Fresh scent that I had used all my life was starting to being so sweet it gave me a headache.  I even wrote the company and sure enough, they switched their formula and so I switched too.

My current issue is with my toilet paper.  No one likes spending $12-13 for the jumbo pack of toilet paper, so we gather our coupons and match newspapers to get the best deal and we bite the bullet and buy it, again and again and again.  But did you stop to look at it lately!?  I happened to have one roll left when I ran to the store to stock up.  This time while putting the much treasured quilted bundles in there place in the linen closet I noticed the last stack was higher, so I pulled them out to compare and this is what I found:

Not only were the new rolls all ratty on the ends, but they were a 1/2″ narrower!  4in_tp

4_5_in_tp1  I couldn’t believe it, so much for their “New Value” package, I think they are the ones saving the money.  So I of course wrote the company to see what is going on.  I mean really, look at how they look on my toilet paper holder:

Am I wrong?  What would you have done or maybe you have had a similar experience?  I would love to hear about it.
