What an interesting Friday this has been. In fact, it’s been down right shocking to many people all over the world. President Barack Obama has won the Nobel Peace Prize.
I know I, for one, kind of needed this. With all of the back-and-forth on the economy and health care and the heavy heart I have for all of our courageous troops (especially being the daughter of a war veteran), this latest development has boosted my national pride a bit — which has been sagging lately.
It’s nice to know that the ideals of our President are supported by the world community. It’s also nice to know that our President sees this prize as another call to action, rather than a much-deserved reward.
One thing that saddens me, though, is the critical response. It reminds me that we continue, unfortunately, to be a nation divided. However, I will ask in this moment for the critics to take note: We are one nation, and our President won the Nobel Peace Prize ”for his extraordinary efforts to strengthen international diplomacy and cooperation between peoples”, which is something we — as human beings living within our nation — can take pride in. Oh, and did I mention he’s donating the prize money to charity? You go, Mr. President.
