Once upon a time, Shakespeare’s Hamlet did speak the following, eloquent truth, “All the world’s a stage, and all the men and women merely players: They have their exits and their entrances; And one man in his time plays many parts…”
This came to mind when I read this LA Times article that the parents of “Balloon Boy” are facing possible criminal charges. I doubt very much that poor little “Balloon Boy” thought much about anything except having fun and living up to other people’s expectations, upon the stage of his family’s supposed media hoax.
It’s a rather sad commentary on the state of our personal affairs, don’t you think? It positively smacks of desperation for attention, or distraction, or just plain lunacy. Are we so intent on achieving notoriety and fame that we’ve lost site of the expectations we unleash on ourselves and others?
It certainly gives me pause to think of how many times I have found myself in the realization that I may be exacting unrealistic expectations on my loved ones, or being an unwitting recipient of them.
As if the Universe had to further drive this point home, the DailyOM delivered the message to me again, loud and clear, with a chime from my email inbox. Their topic for the day: “Appreciated Suggestions: Other People’s Agendas“.
So, I’m going to say the following to you out there inĀ SweetTalk land (as much as to myself). Let’s set some great expectations and agendas for ourselves this week. Indulge in a few good, refreshing cleansing rituals to renew both body and mind. Begin your week by releasing those expectations, which may have been unleashed upon you, and send your mind up, up, and away.
