What is it about chocolate and women? Big boxes filled with glorious chocolates on Valentines Day, chocolate-coated strawberries on your anniversary date… the men know. They know we love it and the sweet taste feels so rich and yummy. The process of eating a chocolate candy can be slightly overwhelming at times. The sugar rushes through the veins, igniting sensations of warmth, sensuality, and ultimate pleasure.
Hold on– am I talking about sex or candy?
A friend of mine has a serious experience whilst eating chocolate, practically orgasmic. Author Shalin Popat writes, “It is in fact the rush of endorphins produced by eating chocolates, particularly dark chocolates, which is most similar to the bliss associated with a healthy sexual relationship. Chocolate also contains phenyl-ethylamine which is known to stimulate the release of dopamine into the pleasure centers commonly associated with an orgasm.” Sensibly, the rush of sugar increases energy and excitement. Large amounts of chocolate consumption may trigger similar senses often felt in sex. Nevertheless, most chocolate fanatics I know are women. Why do women respond so strongly? Hmmm…
