My sister just turned 27 and everyone is freaking out because she’s single. Something about hitting your late twenties means time is running out, to some people. A lot of women have a projected idea or list of goals they’d like to accomplish before reaching 30. One of those goals for my sister is having her first child. Being a young mom is really important to her. Ok, so why not have a baby? Oh wait- I guess a boyfriend would be a nice start.
According to the most recent statistics from the Centers for Disease Control, teenagers account for only 23 percent of current “out-of-wedlock births. That means the vast majority of unwed mothers are old enough to know what they’re doing: Unwed births are surging among women ages 25 to 29.” Times a changing. In 1960, around 5 percent of births were from unwed mothers. That statistic has risen about 40 percent. “Out-of-wedlock births used to be such a source of shame that families tried to hide them: Singer Bobby Darin was born to a teen mother and raised to believe she was his sister. But now out-of-wedlock births are greeted with a shrug,” Emily Yoffe of Slate News reports.
Is the traditional, first comes marriage then comes baby, the option for everyone? If marriage doesn’t happen when you plan for it, its ok I think. The world is changing and so are opinions of relationships and love. Live the right way for you, I say.
