Although birth control pills have been around for a long time and are very effective they do pose health risks.  According to Mayer Laboratories, the Today Sponge is a proven, safe effective birth control alternative.  Offering 24 hour protection, the Today Sponge is a convenient over the counter contraceptive that is effective immediately upon insertion.

It is a soft polyurethane sponge which is held in place by the vaginal muscles. The foam provides contraceptive protection by acting as a barrier blocking and absorbing sperm.

For those of you that like myself who worry about the long term affects of taking birth control pills, this seems to be the perfect alternative. Naturally, before trying anything new you should consult your OB/Gyn.
