Dinner Crash…and burn

By ChristiƩnne Miller

I hope you’ve been too embroiled in Cyber Monday shopping to notice the current indiscretion of the latest couple vying for celebrity status. I, unfortunately, just happened to emerge from my post-holiday haze to catch a glimpse. Ugh.

As if the whole Balloon Boy business wasn’t enough for us to socially bear, now we have the pleasure of meeting the overtly self-centered, selfish (and apparently ignorant of the law) Michaele & Tareq Salahi.

I don’t know about you, but it’s times like these that I wonder where we took a wrong turn as a country. Was it the 1980s when everything was all about buying and selling, no matter the cost?

Honestly, I know bitching about people like the Salahis only gives them more popularity and the attention they crave, but in doing so, I’m hoping more and more people voice their concern about what appears to be an alarming increase in bad manners and inappropriate behavior. I wonder what will be the ultimate crisis that gives us all a gigantic “time out”?

I’m going to hold the space that this ridiculous and desperate grab for attention is just a random act, and not the precursor for more idiocy to come. Please tell me that, as we claw our way out of the financial crisis and health care distress, that we aren’t facing moral bankruptcy too.

How thoroughly annoying…think I’ll go back to shopping! BTW, have you seen the sweetest online gift items yet?
