Miles for the Gift of Family

On this “eve” of President Obama’s speech regarding his Afghanistan troop policy, I was reminded of an organization that has made it their mission to help military families spend holidays with their recovering loved ones.

In partnership with the Department of Defense, the Fischer House Foundation provides airline tickets to military family members during their time of need. The program, Hero Miles, uses donated frequent flyer miles to secure seats on flights throughout the year. The flights are free to the injured military personnel and their families and, to date, Hero Miles has distributed over 18,000 tickets.

Aside from keeping it sweet for troops in the field, I can’t think of a better way to show you care during the holidays then supporting them while they heal, can you?

It’s a great way to pay-it-forward — especially if you’re wondering what to do with all those extra frequent flyer miles, before they expire!
