‘Tis the season for presents and good cheer, which always occurs — even in the most economically challenging years.
Now, more than ever, many of us are re-thinking our giving practices to be more mindful with the money we spend, or donations we make, to ensure what we give goes as far as it can.
This is the compassionate side of the human spirit we all share, and it’s in this spirit that I’ve compiled the following ways you can transform a little gift into a lot of joy this holiday season.
- The first is a reminder that Hero Miles and Operation Gratitude goes along way for those who serve, as does the efforts of the USO and Wreaths Across America.
- The second gives mention to top-of-mind organizations who continue to need support, like the United Way, The Salvation Army, the American Red Cross, Goodwill Industries, Feeding America, and St. Jude Children’s Hospital.
- Next up are resources, Charity Navigator, Give.org, and Care2 will connect you with new giving opportunities.
- For those who like to shop and give at the same time, World of Good, The Hunger Site, and the Greater Good give a wide array of options.
- I’ll end with some suggestions from my “faves” list: Soles4Souls, Charity Water, NPR, and Doctors Without Borders.
Now I’ll yield the floor, and invite you to share those organizations or charities that receive your gifts of conscience throughout the year and holiday season. The more we share, the more we make the world merry and bright.
