Posters are haunting me everywhere and I must confront them. Fergie, Kate Hudson, Nicole Kidman, Sophie Loren, Penelope Cruz, Judi Dench, and Daniel Day-Lewis compile the cast of Rob Marshall’s latest dazzler, Nine. Fans of the film version of Chicago will most likely get a kick out of this over the top, extremely intriguing, musical number.
IMDB relays: Nine tells the story of Guido Contini (Daniel Day-Lewis), a world famous film director as he confronts an epic mid-life crisis with both creative and personal problems. He must balance the many women of his life, including his wife (Marion Cotillard), his mistress (Penelope Cruz), his film star muse (Nicole Kidman), his confidant and costume designer (Judi Dench), an American fashion journalist (Kate Hudson), the whore from his youth (Fergie) and his mother (Sophia Loren).
The original Nine, written by Maury Yeston, premiered on Broadway in 1982 and won 5 Tony Awards including best musical. Now it’s Rob Marshall’s latest endeavor to recreate the musical into a film. Based on Fellini’s 8 ½, (which follows and describes the 8 ½ films directed by Guido), Marshall apparently transforms the previous version into a toe tapping fantasy of beauty and drama. Let me know what you think if you see it! (December 18th !)
