Static in Winter

It’s been a while since I lived in east coast winter conditions, and now I remember why. Every year when the weather turns colder and the heaters kick on, the static returns.

Today alone, I shocked my daughter over a dozen times, the cat, the dog, the hubby, my sister, pretty much every appliance we own — even my car!

It was during one of these shocking episodes that a spark of sage wisdom from my childhood came flooding back: I’ve forgotten to humidify.

Now, some of you may be laughing because you already know this obvious fact, but for those who are dealing with unusual winter weather and are new to winter skin care, this one’s for you.

Static electricity thrives in dry air. When you’re in doors with the heater on, that dries out everything — including your skin and hair. So, in order to cut down on static you have to increase the balance of moisture in the air.

Your best best is to decide which type of humidity device will work for you. Allergy Be Gone carries a variety of them in both cool and warm mist styles. It being cold and flu season as well, a humidifier can also help relieve congestion and speed the healing process.

And now, as I receive my thousandth shock of the day @#%**!, it’s time for me to fly and humidify.
