Yep, it’s true: Valentine’s Day is almost here and the stress of what to do and get is finally upon us — especially in these tight financial times.
If you, like a lot of people, are wondering how to say “I love you” without breaking the bank, relax! With so many low- and no-cost ideas to choose from, you’re sure to find ways to make your day special, regardless of budget.
Check out these options for inspiration:
- Show your love in a big way: Turn your garage door into a Valentine billboard by declaring your love in large, cut-out hearts and letters pasted for the whole neighborhood to see. Embarassing? Maybe. Attention-getting? Definitely!
- Create a sexy scavenger hunt: In home or out, leave notes with clues that lead to the boudoir.
- Cook at home wearing only an apron, or order some take out, and feed each other with your fingers.
- Read passages from timeless romantic literary treasures like “The Notebook” to each other, by candlelight.
- Search local community listings for free concerts or plays.
- Host a group baby sitter at your house for the night to help you and your friends save on childcare.
- Valentine’s Day is on a Sunday this year, why not visit your local farmer’s market for free samples, live music, and one-of-a-kind artisan gifts.
- Depending on the weather and if you live near a beach, pack a picnic and take the whole family along – write love notes in the sand, take pictures, and rent bikes.
- For those who’d rather take the kids along for a family Valentine’s dinner, go Italian: Restaurants like Bertucci’s are very kid friendly, and their games, toys, dough balls, and conscientious staff have extended my night out with the family for an extra 30 – 45 minutes!
No matter what you choose to do, try to remember the real reason for the day: Showing the ones you love how much you love them. Oh, and if you have ideas you’d like to share, please do! Another thing we all love is a bargain, am I right?
