Who comes up with these ridiculous serving sizes? Serving sizes are based on the amount of food people typically eat, which makes them realistic and easy to compare to similar foods. However, this probably is not the serving amount you normally eat.
For example, if you take my favorite packaged cookie Oreo’s, a serving size is about 3 cookies. I’m pretty sure I can speak for most of us, when I say 3 are not enough. Let’s take the Lay’s Classic Potato Chips for example. An 11oz. bag has 11 servings! That translates to about 15 chips. Truly, aside from my 2 year old grandson, who eats such a small quantity?
Bread, now this depends on the brand, type, or size of the bread. But I have a pretty good size of Italian load in front of me and the serving size is 1. 1 slice of bread is a serving size. So, 2 servings to make a sandwich. A can of soup…2 servings, eat the whole can and you’ve doubled the calories.
How I understand it, America has the highest obesity problem. I suppose if we kept to the serving size there wouldn’t be problem.
