The Paper Chase

by Amanda Paige

I was watching a home renovation show this weekend and they asked the question “How many rolls of toilet paper do you think the Pentagon uses everyday?”  Well of course I missed the answer, so I had to look it up and I found answers ranging from 660-666 rolls a day, now that is some job security changing out toilet paper rolls each day!  This got me wondering who has the contract with them to supply all that TP and what the room at the Pentagon must look like where they store them all!?

I know you are all going to think I am obsessed with toilet paper after my last two articles on the subject, but in this economy we have to be sure we are spending our money wisely and that we are getting what we pay for.  I found an article in the Denver Post about a man that met much the same dilema I had, but he felt he was being shorted promised sheets.  After getting to the bottom of the article I did wonder if maybe his tallying was off  because someone snuck down and used his “test” bathroom without his knowledge.   But at least he got back what he feels he lost, I on the other hand got nothing for my findings.

TIP: Did you know the average consumer uses 8.6 sheets per trip, 57 sheets a day, one standard roll every five days and 20,800 sheets a year?  So imagine you are shorted sheets, or width in my case, how much money do you think you are losing in product each year?

Don’t feel bad sending in your feedback to these companies, after all, you should get what you pay for.  And last time I checked my toilet paper did not say, “Now 20% less toilet paper for the same great price.”
