It’s such a shame that Sandra Bullock’s Oscar win has been overshadowed by her husband’s reported infidelities.
No one deserves to have their accomplishments tainted by another person’s bad choices, but it seems as though there’s a lot of things going awry in celebrity marriages (and non-celeb’s too) these days.
I know we’ve posted on infidelity many times on SweetTalk and tried to offer explanations and support to help promote understanding and healing.
Recently, however, there seems to be an emerging trend that some feel may actually help couples survive infidelity: Rehab. Tiger Woods did it, and now, Jesse James is trying it too.
So, what do sexual recovery programs provide above and beyond marriage counseling? For one, they help the individual focus on themselves and their issues, instead of being constantly reminded of how much they’ve hurt their loved ones. Being out of their environment in a controlled space that is focused on their healing can only help set the foundation for a solid recovery.
However, with any recovery program, the ultimate success lies within a comprehensive after care maintenance program–which most rehabs help the patient plan for and set up.
On the relationship side of things, everyone needs to be on the same page and willing to work toward keeping the relationship in tact. It’s not easy, but perhaps in some cases, it may be worth it.
I wonder: Do you think reconciliation is a viable after infidelity?
