Word for the Day – Speleotherapy

by Amanda Paigesalt lamp

Ever wonder how surfers stay healthy when they constantly surf in the cold water?  Just maybe it has something to do with the salt water.  When you are pregnant your doctor recommends Ocean Spray as a non-medicated way to clear up your nose, so why don’t we ever hear about Speleotherapy?  According to Wikipedia Salt therapy, halotherapy or speleotherapy  is the therapeutic use of salt mines, caves or other forms of exposure to salt air.

There are actually “salt spas”, if you will, that mimic the salt mines found throughout Eastern Europe like Salt Chalet.  The TV show called “The Doctors” featured them on one of their episodes talking about who can benefit from this type of therapy.

If you cannot find a salt cave in your town, you might want to look into the beautiful Himalayan Salt Lamps, bowls and candle holders.  I’ve always wondered what those pretty pink hued rocks were.  I will definitely buy them for their esthetic qualities and if it helps me breathe well, even better.
