Did the period fairy visit you when you were a girl?

celebritypharmacology1by Tami Chase

I was watching the episode called “Celebrity Pharmacology” on Community the other day and I had to laugh when Annie said she had saved up all her money from when the “period fairy” would come. Now that is a seriously creative parent (ok, I know this is just a TV show, but maybe that really happened to one of the writers!?) But really? She got rewarded for something that was inevitable? What about “Ahh, I’m sorry, let’s go out for some ice cream” or “why don’t I take you shopping” or “let’s go get our nails done”. But I think the best gift would have to be the Hormone Harmony gift set from SweetSpot Labs! It’s like confidence in a box.

Did your mom do anything special for you when you got your period?

Toilet Paper a Sticky Subject!?

I actually have a friend who will not use the last couple of sheets of toilet paper because she is afraid of the glue.  Now I must say those last 2 squares do seem like a bit of a waste and I also wonder if that comes into the square count they list on the package (just ask Leo Hill his thoughts on that).

Now I realize the glue can’t be the same as the sugar/water mixture that glues the paper cups to ice cream cones.  So after doing a little research and not finding a definitive answer I of course did the obvious and went straight to the source and wrote Georgia-Pacific Consumer Products the makers of Quilted Northern.  Unfortunately the answer I got back, “our glue is proprietary” is not the answer I was looking for.  I simply wanted to know if it was harmful, I wasn’t looking for their recipe!  But Mr. Hill, you will be happy to know they said the glued sheets are not part of the sheet count.

I will still continue on my search for the secret adhesive ingredients and along the way maybe I will find something new like this cool site about toilet paper origami.

Reading a magzine in the loo is so yesterday, you know you want to give this a try!

Saving is Cool

jonas-brothers-purity-ringsBy Harlow Essex

I recently saw a television special on VH1, entitled Virginity. The show spoke about pop idols, particularly those of the Disney Channel franchise, choosing purity rings as a symbol of their commitment to God and themselves. The commentators and comedians speaking on the subject chose to high light the emerging trend of virginity in young musicians, The Jonas Brothers as well as Jordan Sparx and Miley Cyrus. They also touched on the past generations of publicly known virgins like Brooke Shields, then Brittany Spears (so she claimed), and Jessica Simpson. Read More »

Thinking Romantically

cartoon-woman-medby Cross Woodfield

I was reading Harlow’s post about relationships a couple days ago, and it sparked in my mind another question I’ve been meaning to ask you guys.

Girls always talk about how disgusting it is when a guy breaks up with a girl and then starts dating someone he knew before they broke up.

I always keep my mouth shut, but I have to wonder: is it intrinsically immoral to think of someone romantically when you’re dating someone else?  I mean when I’m dating a guy and I really like him, I don’t like other guys but then if you and the first guy break up you can sometimes remember the people you met and the “missed opportunities” and explore them…no? How to Mend

break-upBy Harlow Essex

A pint of mint chip, Platinum Weddings marathon, and sweat pants. Sound familiar? (Admittingly, it does to me.) I have been curious as to how couples maintain a balanced, healthy, lasting relationship. As far as I can see it, pretty tough task. Unfortunately we all go through break-ups, and sometimes out of choice. Nevertheless, the pain is there and I wonder what methods women go through to help mend the break-up pain. Read More »

Oldie but a Goodie

by Harlow Essex

I love how some films get even better the second, third, fourth time. We all have our favorites and love watching them, whether on Friday night TV or HBO. I recently realized how much I adore Someone Like You. For those who missed out on the 2001 theater run, I highly recommend to indulge purchasing or renting.

Ashley Judd, along with Greg Kinnear, Hugh Jackman, and Marisa Tomei, make up the colorful cast of complicated characters. After going through a brutal break-up, Jane Goodale (Ashley Judd) creates a sexist column under the pseudonym of a deceased doctor. The subject of the film targets the questions between men and women, cheating, lying, and finding the good guy out of the spoiled bunch.
